HowToSetup ECP on my computer

Several possibilities:

General Note-1 Some of the models below require a utility program Setport.exe( usage: setport 4), which turns the printer port into the ECP mode, from Compaq called SP2158.EXE for the following models 
    1) Contura Aero
    2) LTE Elite (only Medium transferspeed is supported by this )
    3) Contura 400 Series
    4) LTE 5000 Series
    5) Armada 1100 Series
    6) Armada 4100 Series
    7) Armada 3500 Series
There may be more Compaq Notebooks which  work with this tool!

Dear Compaq, where are your Bios updates that users have less problems with your systems. Where is the NT/2000 Version of this tool. The compaq customers pay a lot of money for such incompatible systems and should become a good and error fixed bios. Did you ever run the ECP complience test from Microsoft there?

 

General Note-2 The following Professional Workstation models can configure the ECP printer mode in the COMS menu
    1) 500 series
    2) 600 series
    3) 800 series

The configuration procedure
- Boot the unit
- After the memory count, you will hear a beep and cursor will move to the right top corner; press F10
- Select COMPUTER SET UP
- Select BUILT IN DEVICES
- Select COMMUNICATIONS
- Verify that BI-DIRECTIONAL, EPP, ECP setting is set to ECP 
- Select OK
- Select CLOSE
- Select FILE
- Select SAVE CHANGES AND EXIT
- Your unit will reboot

A lot of the Armada Models need to uses this tool. 1) Download from Compaq a file called SETPORT.EXE and add in CONFIG.SYS,
DEVICE=SETPORT.EXE 4 (4=ECP option)

2) In Device Manager under the System icon of the Control Panel, set up
LPT1 as a  ECP -Printer Port 
double-click on LPT1,
click on the Driver tab of the Properties,
click Update Driver,
check "No, select driver from list", then Next,
check "Show all hardware",
under Manufacturers select "(Standard port types)"
under Models select "ECP-Printer Port" 
click Finish,
reboot

1) Open the (ThinkPad Feature) window by selecting (Start on Taskbar) ->(Programs) ->(Accessories) ->(ThinkPad) ->(ThinkPad feature)
2) Now select either LPT2 or LPT3
3) Then select (ECP)
